Going to college is a big step that can lead to many exciting social, educational, and professional opportunities. Keeping your teeth in great shape can help you make excellent first impressions when meeting new people, and it’s easy to maintain good oral health by practicing a few excellent hygiene habits. Here’s a quick overview of a few essential dental care items to pack when preparing to move into your dormitory.

Toothpaste and Toothbrush

Your daily brushing habits are your first line of defense against plaque and the destructive oral infections it can cause, so it’s important to make sure you have the right equipment to clean your teeth properly. When selecting a toothbrush, look for one with soft bristles that will be gentle on your enamel since hard-bristled brushes can leave scratches or irritate the gums. It’s also important to use fluoridated toothpaste, and it’s a great idea to select a gel-type variety if you have restorations like crowns or bridges.

Dental Floss

Dental floss is every bit as important for your oral health as your toothbrush since it can clean in the spaces between the teeth that are otherwise too hard to reach. While traditional waxed floss is an excellent way to do the job, some people may prefer to use floss picks or water flossers. Neglecting to floss adequately will lead to issues like gingivitis, bad breath, and tooth loss, and all of these can make it difficult to maintain a stylish appearance on campus.

Antibacterial Mouthwash

The American Dental Association recommends rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash every day. These products are designed to strengthen teeth, kill harmful oral bacteria, and break down plaque and tartar, and they will also leave your breath pleasantly fresh and minty. In addition to preventing infections, this habit can make it easier to look great, feel comfortable, and radiate confidence in class or social situations.

Don’t let the hustle and bustle of moving into your dorm distract you from your oral hygiene. Consulting with your dentist can help you maintain excellent oral health.
